The project 'Friends' is a workshop on web based social networks like Myspace, Facebook, Friendster, Orkut (among others) brought down to a classic paper friendship book involving the functionality and language of the web. All visitors are invited to sample their own paper friendship book from a range of 'hardware plugins' featuring different low tech elements. Like in social networks the participants of the workshop are then invited to share their books, collect friends and exchange information in various ways. From classic pen drawing, instant photo stickers to custom stamps all kinds of unplugged communications are involved.
How do the web based social services influence our real life social networks? Who is your friend and how many do you have? Where is the difference in getting to know each other on the net or in real life?
Friends was commissioned by Futuresonic in 2008.
